Boys and Sticks

One recent afternoon, as I was just sitting down to enjoy a nice cup of tea and some quiet time (ha!), I heard crying outside. As opposed to the early days when I would jump at the sound of any crying, now when I hear crying, I have to measure whether or not to respond and decide if I should get involved or let it work itself out. Anyway, this crying sounded pretty urgent, so I put my tea down and got up to go and see what was going on (that was my first mistake).

When I got outside, our 4 year old, who never whines (yeah right), was crying and saying,
"Mom, Joseph is trying to shoot me with that stick!" So I said, "Joseph, why don't you play like your hunting or something and you are trying to shoot animals with your stick rather than at people." So, he says, "Okay! Let's go hunting!" To which our 4 year old says, "Okay, I'll be the deer!"

Some days I wonder why I even try :)
